(02) Rust FAQ

Everything about Rust hosting

Oxide (uMod) or Carbon: which modding framework should I choose?

Both work on every Rust plan. Oxide (uMod) is the long-standing framework, with a very large plugin library. Carbon is newer, focuses on performance and can load many plugins written for Oxide. You run one or the other, not both at once: upload its files and your plugins through the panel or via FTP.

Does the Rust+ app work with my server?

Yes, Rust+ is supported on every plan. Each player pairs the companion app with your server from the in-game menu, then can check the map, chat with their team and get alerts from their smart alarms on their phone.

How do wipes work?

Facepunch enforces a forced wipe every month, with the update released on the first Thursday of the month. Your server then has to move to the new version so players can connect, and Oxide or Carbon must be updated too. Between forced wipes, you can wipe whenever you like, for example by changing the map seed or deleting the save files through the panel or via FTP.

Which plan should I pick for my Rust server?

Rust is demanding on CPU and memory, especially on a large map. The Starter plan (4 vCores, 8 GB of RAM) suits a server with friends or a small community, vanilla or lightly modded. The Pro plan (6 vCores, 12 GB) is meant for a modded server with regular players. The Elite plan (8 vCores, 16 GB) is built for big maps, many plugins and a busy server.

Can I change the map and my server settings?

Yes. Server name, max players, map size, seed, plugins and their configs: your files stay editable through the panel or via FTP. Each plan also includes 1 to 3 MySQL databases, handy for plugins that need one.

Is my Rust server protected against DDoS attacks?

Yes, L3/L4/L7 Anti-DDoS protection is included on every Rust plan. In a PvP game where clan rivalries run high, that protection is essential.

Are backups included?

Backups are available as an option, at €2 per backup, from 1 to 10 backups. Useful for keeping a copy of your map and plugins before a wipe or a big change.

How much does a Rust server cost at TalCloud?
